What tuckpointing actually is — and when Conroe brick needs it
If you can scrape the mortar out of your joints with a screwdriver, Conroe weather has already won.
Mortar is sacrificial by design. It is meant to be softer than the brick so that movement cracks the joint rather than the masonry unit.
In Conroe, humidity and heavy rain accelerate that wear. Once joints recess more than about a quarter inch, water sits in them instead of running off.
Tuckpointing means grinding the failed mortar out to a consistent depth and packing in fresh, color-matched mortar, then tooling the joint to match the original profile.
Matching matters twice: the color so the repair disappears, and the hardness so a modern high-cement mix doesn't destroy older, softer brick.
Done properly it restores both the weather seal and the appearance, and it lasts decades.
