Gas log installation
in Houston, TX.

This page is about putting a new gas log set into a firebox you already have. If the fireplace burns wood today and you are done hauling firewood, a log set is the short path: no new chimney, no new framing, no surround rebuild. If a set is already in there and it will not light, that is fireplace repair instead.

Match-light vs. remote control

Two ways to light it
and one fits your firebox.

A match-light set is the simple version. Gas runs to a burner pan under the logs, a key valve in the wall or floor controls it, and you open the valve and light it. There is no pilot burning between uses and nothing electronic to fail. It takes up the least room inside the firebox, which matters in older Houston fireplaces with shallow openings.

A remote control set adds a gas valve, a standing or electronic pilot, and a receiver, so the fire starts from a handheld remote or a wall switch. That hardware sits behind and under the logs, so the firebox has to be deeper and taller than a match-light install needs. The minimums below are the numbers we check before ordering anything.

Remote control sets — firebox minimums

Measure your firebox first, then read across. If you are under the minimum, a match-light set is usually still an option.

How to measure your firebox

Four numbers
and we can size it.

Depth — front of the firebox floor straight back to the rear wall.
Height — firebox floor up to the top of the opening at the front.
Front width — left to right across the face of the opening.
Back width — left to right across the rear wall, which is usually narrower.

Take the measurements at the widest and tallest points, and send a straight-on photo of the open firebox with them. That is usually enough for us to tell you what will fit before anyone drives out.

Logs are not the only option

If you want the heat without the log look, the same burner can be dressed with fire glass, ceramic fireballs, or contemporary fire shapes. It is the same install work and the same measurements — only the media on top changes. Tell us the look you want and we will quote it that way.

Building new rather than converting? That is fireplace installation, and the units we order for those jobs are listed under brands we install.
